Lauren Kalmanson has been at BACNS since 2003. In addition to teaching the Threes class in the morning, she provides aftercare in the afternoons. Lauren also leads the Tot Shabbat program, a Jewish experience for young children and their families, at Beth Ami and Shomrei Torah. A Tot Shabbat program is held at each synagogue once a month.

Lauren attended The University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa where she received a BA and Higher Diploma in Education. Also she has taken Early Childhood Education classes in the Bay Area. Prior to BACNS, Lauren was a teacher at Gan Shalom Preschool in Berkeley for 11 years, and was the Director/Head Teacher for the last four years there. Lauren says that she loves the children and working with Debby and Connie as her co-teachers. "I feel blessed and privileged to work with such a dedicated, good-humored, creative and amazing staff here."

Debby Barbose teaches the Threes class with Lauren on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Debby received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley. She received her Early Childhood Education (ECE) teaching credential and MA from Sonoma State University. Debby began her ECE career in Cotati and Sonoma Valley, where she created several new schools with great groups of parents. These were creative, grass-roots programs.

Debby started teaching at BACNS in 1985. After 3 years at BACNS, she went to Napa Valley College for 5 years to teach in ECE. However, she missed the direct work with children and returned to BACNS in 1993. For Debby, the best part of working with our children at BACNS is seeing the kids get a hold of an idea and take off on their own ideas and play; and collaborating with co-workers to then support these wonderful ideas the children have developed.

She has both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Early Childhood from Queens College of the City University of New York. Ellen has a California Credential, CLAD certification, a NCLB certificate of compliance, and certification as a Master Teacher. Ellen has worked in a Parent Cooperative Nursery school in New York, where she taught three, four, and five year olds and formulated the Toddler program. Ellen was also a Validator for the National Association for Young Children. She taught kindergarten, first, and second grade in the New York City Public School System. She was chosen to be part of a model kindergarten program in the South Bronx, NY. Ellen moved to California and taught for the Live Oak State Pre-School for two years, and she was a Kindergarten and Kindergarten/First Grade combination teacher at Ohlone School, Santa Cruz, for 12 years. Ellen is very excited to be working at Beth Ami Nursery School and loves being part of an incredible staff in an incredible school!
